On the doorstep of Hamurana, with its beautiful spring and wild-life sanctuary
A little further in the other direction, but just 3-4 minutes away by car, is the lake-front location of Hamurana. Here, in addition to further beautiful picnic spots, there are free BBQ facilities and play areas for children. A walk-through the redwood forest and wild-life sanctuary at Hamurana Springs (takes about 20-30 minutes), where one can view the stunningly clear fresh spring waters and listen to the sounds of the many species of birds to be found there, is strongly recommended.
For those seeking an active holiday, as well as the usual "extreme" activities such as sky-diving, white-water rafting, luging and zorbing, Rotorua offers an abundance of fishing and cycling choices. It also has several excellent golf courses and two tennis clubs, all of which welcome visitors on a casual pay-as-you-play basis. As your hosts we will be delighted to help organise your participation in any activities in which you would like to take part.
Rotorua is also at the centre of Maori culture in New Zealand, and visitors have the opportunity to learn first-hand how Maoris have helped to shape this dynamic, multi-cultural young country.
Make Rotorua your base for exploring central North Island
Located in the centre of the North Island, Rotorua is also an ideal base for exploring other parts of the Bay of Plenty and Waikato. On the east coast the delightful resorts of Tauranga and Mount Maunganui are less than an hour away.
To the north, the picturesque, tree-lined town of Cambridge, famed for its stud farms and host to the 2010 World Rowing Championships, is 45 minutes away, and Hamilton, New Zealand's fourth largest city and built around the beautiful Waikato River, can be reached in an hour.
To the south Taupo, home to New Zealand's largest fresh-water lake and some of the largest silica terraces in the world, can be reached in just over an hour.
If you intend to spend some time in Waikato and the wider Bay of Plenty area then we recommend that you consider making Rotorua your base. We will be delighted to share our knowledge with you so that you can plan your ideal itinerary and enjoy to the full the many and varied attractions of this fascinating and beautiful area.

Things to do in and around Rotorua
Many travellers under-estimate how much there is to see and do in Rotorua and the surrounding area. In addition to the unique and internationally famous thermal springs and bubbling mud pools, Rotorua boasts a series of stunningly beautiful lakes forged out of earlier volcanic activity, thousands of acres of redwood forest with a wide variety of walks and cycle trails, and some of the best trout fishing to be found anywhere in New Zealand.
Take a walk for a picnic by Lake Rotorua
A huge advantage of our location as a Rotorua B&B is that whilst offering a secluded rural setting we are nevertheless just a short distance from Lake Rotorua, a beautiful place for a stroll, or perhaps an evening picnic whilst watching the sun go down.
