Your host Mick loves books and enjoys nothing more than rummaging around second-hand shops and book fairs looking for hidden treasures. Over the years he has built up an extensive collection of novels as well as books on sport, cinema, music, journalism and travel. In addition there are a large number of biographies and auto-biographies, and also a separate and extensive collection of books on history and politics, mostly covering the 19th and 20th centuries.
Whilst there is enough to do in Rotorua and the surrounding area to fully occupy even the most energetic of travelers, guests are most welcome to spend time in the library and browse through the collections. If you then find a book that you cannot put down but also cannot finish during your stay with us, an arrangement can be made to take it away on your travels and return it to us when you have finished it.
There are also extensive collections of films and music which guests are welcome to explore, and a range of DVD's may be borrowed to view either on our wide-screen TV or in our cinema studio.

Step back in time and take a guided stroll around Mokoia Downs
Whilst the antique 19th century farm machinery is no longer operational, the Challenge windmill performs a valuable function in aerating the estate's small lake, and the vintage Europa petrol pump helps to make sure equipment for looking after the land never runs out of fuel.
Whilst the grounds alone provide a beautiful setting in which to casually wander, they are also enhanced by these links with the past. Guests interested in how the land was worked generations ago are invited to take part in a guided stroll around the estate, where Teresa will illuminate how farmers from as far apart as Ireland and New Zealand used the technology of yesteryear to provide a living and way of life.

MOKOIA DOWNS ESTATE
Mokoia Downs Estate offers superior accommodation consisting of three stylishly furnished and exceptionally comfortable rooms. The rooms are located in private wings of the house.
The Taranaki Suite consists of one bedroom with private bathroom. The bedroom has a slider window leading out on to a private deck with table and chairs.

Room facilities include: Room 1 - large queen bed; Room 2 - 2 single beds, which can be re-configured as a large, super-king bed if required; high quality, firm mattress for a good nights sleep; finest linen; bathrobes; bedside reading lamps; wireless internet; tea and coffee making facilities; mini-bar / refrigerator; hairdryer and heater.
The Tarawera Suite consists of two bedrooms and a shower room, and also leads out on to a private deck with table and chairs. The Tarawera Suite is ideal for parties / families of up to 4 people.
