Mokoia Downs

Mokoia Downs was originally home to a family who enjoyed a rural life with horses. Since then, the five picturesque acres have also been, at times, the residence of other animals including sheep, deer, rabbits, cats & dogs, as well as an abundance of “natural” wildlife. Often the grounds are home to visiting peacocks, ducks, (that glide up and down the small, scenic creek which winds around the lower half of the land), and many other species of native birds such as the Tui, Pukeko and Fantail.

The expansive, well-maintained grounds are ideal for taking peaceful strolls and there are a number of quiet, sheltered spots where guests can sit, read, reflect and relax after a day's activities.

As soon as you leave the main road and travel down the long, tree-lined driveway, there is a wonderful feeling of leaving the bustling world far behind you as you enter a secret and enchanting hideaway. Whilst artifacts such as a vintage petrol pump, windmill and antique farm machinery provide a link with times gone by, all modern comforts are provided for guests in the extensively refurbished home.

In addition to these, an organic fruit, vegetable and herb garden has been lovingly created and all the guests of Mokioa Downs can enjoy the produce which these gardens provide each season.
