Mokoia Downs was originally established as a home for a family who enjoyed riding and grooming horses. Over the years the five picturesque acres have also been shared with sheep, deer, horses, rabbits, dogs and cats as well as an abundance of wildlife. The wildlife includes visiting peacocks, ducks that glide up and down the small creek which winds around the lower half of the land, and native birds such as the Tui, Pukeko and Fantail.
The grounds are ideal for taking peaceful strolls, and there are a number of quiet, sheltered spots where guests can sit and read, reflect, or just relax and listen to peaceful country sounds after a day's activities.
Your hosts Mick and Teresa fell in love with Mokoia Downs from the moment they were first shown the property. As soon as one leaves the road and travels down the long, tree-lined driveway there is a feeling of leaving the busy world far behind and entering a secret and enchanting hideaway. Whilst artifacts such as a vintage petrol pump, windmill and antique farm machinery provide a link with times gone by, all modern comforts are provided for guests in the extensively refurbished home.
In addition, an organic fruit, vegetable and herb garden has been lovingly created, and donkeys and a miniature horse as well as sheep now graze the land.
